FemMe festival (Pré party) review

On friday evening the pre-party of the FemMe festival took place in Eindhoven. The pre-party was hosted by Shadowrise, Circle Unbroken, Beneath My Sins and Anneke van Giersbergen. I arrived at 9 ‘o clock, just in time for the performance of Shadowrise and Anneke van Giersbergen.

Shadowrise entered the stage around half past 9 in the basement of Dynamo. The members of the band held a signing session for the fans beforehand, unfortunately I had to miss out on that because of my late arrival. When I arrived, I immediately went to the basement and there was quite a crowd already. Dennis Winkel from Vlaardingen and Jack Streat from Manchester were added to the band’s line-up as guests this evening. After a couple of weeks of rehearsing they’ve had the chance to present their skills to the public. A heavy and energetic show was put up and all members clearly showed they had fun in what they were doing. The gig was very entertaining and brought a good presentation with it. A heavy thumping and symphonic power metal was let loose. Among the newer songs they also played older ones. Bass player Dennis Winkel knew how to manage hiss skills on stage and was in a good mood. Guitarist Jack Street did his job great as well. His playing was good and he was energetic too. Shadowrise has just one EP so far named ‘Escape From Shadow Island’. A new record is on its way.

After Shadowrise we were at Anneke van Giersbergen’s show for a bit. After a night of heavy power metal she ended the evening quietly with a nice acoustic set. Giving us time to catch out breath. During the show the audiences ears were set on the acoustic melodies of Anneke. The set consisted of different covers by (just to name a few) Bruce Springteen, Devin Townsend and Pink Floyd. She made the songs her own and wiped away a tear at the end because of the admiration and love from her fans. Aside from the fact I was a little late I managed to attend a successful pre-party.
